Jerri Caswell along with her husband Mike and her mother Nan started San Diego Basset Rescue in 1991.

Jerri along with a group of dedicated volunteers have saved enumerable Basset Hounds throughout the years.

For over 21 years Jerri stayed with Bassets rescuing, rehabilitating and re homing hounds throughout San Diego County. From the beginning Jerri”s kind heart and gentle manner assured many hounds and volunteers alike that all was well.

Jerri has just this year retired from rescue to enable her to many of the fun things that she was not able to do previously because of SDBR.

All that have come in contact with Jerri & Mike marvel at all they were able to accomplish with just a few people and the love of hounds. We feel this is not “goodbye” but a “see ya later” from them. At least we hope so!

Resignation letter from Jerri & Mike

Happy New Year!

Thank you to everyone who has supported the efforts of San Diego Basset Rescue. When my husband Mike and I rescued our first Basset hound, Liberty, in 1990, we were purchasing Basset hounds from the newspaper and paying for all their medical care ourselves. It grew into a network of caring people and loyal volunteers. After all that time and saving over 1,000 Basset hounds (and at least that many people from boring lives) it is time for Mike and I to say goodbye and pass the baton. We retired as of December 31, 2012. Retiring from Rescue was a difficult decision to make, as I will miss the adoptions that make me truly believe in miracles. Some amazing volunteers have stepped up and are helping with the transition. They will need all the support we can all give them. They will be able to do so many wonderful things that two people could not. They have plans for meet and greets, walking in parades, and of course, the annual picnic. I am most grateful to Shirley Mueller for taking over as President. I hope you will come forward and offer to become a foster home or assist in fundraising. Fundraising and finding foster homes is a never-ending job. Mike and I will be around to offer any assistance we can. I do hope that those of you who have adopted from us in the past will still drop me an email at mikenjer@cox.net to let me know the latest tidbits – good, sad, and silly regarding your Basset family.

I will be spending some of my time visiting other Basset rescue events and will enjoy being a participant at our Picnic and other up-coming events. Again, please volunteer by contacting Shirley Mueller at the contacts listed in the newsletter. And please keep in touch.

God Bless,

Jerri and Mike Caswell
